HOLLAND TWP. — A local man was left in critical condition after a U-Haul truck he was driving crashed into a semi-tanker Wednesday, March 20, on US-31, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded shortly before 2 p.m. to reports of an injury crash on northbound US-31 between James Street and Felch Street.

The semi-tanker, driven by a 30-year-old Benton Harbor man, was stopped at a traffic light on northbound US-31, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Jon Knott, when the U-Haul, driven by a 37-year-old Holland man, failed to stop in time and rear-ended it.

The Holland man was taken to Butterworth Hospital in critical condition, according to Knott. The Benton Harbor man was uninjured.
