Holland Fire Department: No injuries in afternoon fire on 17th Street

HOLLAND — No one was injured in an afternoon fire on Sunday, Oct. 2, in Holland, according to the Holland Fire Department.

HFD was dispatched at 3:27 p.m. to a fire in a residence on W. 17th Street. The first arriving unit advised there was a working fire in the kitchen, with heavy fire and smoke throughout the structure.

Shortly after arrival, responders gained entry to the residence and confirmed all occupants were out before extinguishing the fire in the kitchen. Although the fire was brought under control quickly, it expanded to the exterior of the back of the home and heavy smoke was found throughout the first and second floors.

Crews remained on-scene for close to two hours, searching for hidden fire in the walls and ceilings and evacuating smoke. Damage estimates and a cause of the fire weren't immediately available. The fire remains under investigation.
