Holiday event to transform Beacon Park into Christmas Wonderland: What to know
Christmas lights, trees, trains, music, food and more — Detroit's Beacon Park will be decked out in Christmas festivities yet again this holiday season.
Kickoff the holidays in Downtown Detroit
Starting Nov. 18, through Jan. 16, 2023, families, adults and children of all ages can gather and enjoy two free holiday events in Detroit: Light Up Beacon Park and Toyland, presented by the DTE Beacon Park Foundation and programmed by The Downtown Detroit Partnership. Both events will be located at 1903 Grand River Ave.
Light Up Beacon Park activities
For a family-friendly experience, attendees "can watch the Children’s Tree come to life with thousands of twinkling LED lights and ornaments decorated by Detroit children and families," from 5-9 p.m., according to the event's news release. "Guests can also enjoy a visit with Santa, meet live reindeer, ride the toy train, listen to music and catch the live broadcast of the 19th Annual Detroit Tree Lighting at Campus Martius."
Activities will continue into the night with a live show from 9-11 p.m., by Detroit drummer and percussionist Aisha Ellis.
Toyland's "larger-than-life light features"
Beacon Park will also host a Toyland light experience that includes "larger-than-life light features" such as a choo-choo train, a giant teddy bear, nutcrackers, presents, sleighs and more, the release stated.
Toyland will also give attendees a behind-the-scenes view of Santa's Workshop and allow children to ride the toy train for free between 5-8 p.m. on select Saturdays between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Currently, train ride dates include:
Nov. 26
Dec. 3
Dec. 10
Dec. 17
