Hobbs man sentenced to 54 years in prison for killing pregnant girlfriend

HOBBS, N.M. (KRQE) – A Hobbs man who killed his pregnant girlfriend and shot her two-year-old daughter will spend more than 50 years behind bars. In September 2021, Steven Samreth shot and killed his girlfriend with two small children at the Avalon Cove Apartments. Police say one of the children, who survived, was also found with a gunshot wound to the face.

After the shooting, Samreth turned the gun on himself but survived the suicide attempt. He was found guilty of murder, two counts of child abuse, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
