Hmong-French bistro from notable pastry chef Diane Moua to open early April

Chef Diane Moua’s forthcoming Hmong-French bistro has been in the works for almost a year and a half, and we finally know when we’ll be able to visit one of our most highly anticipated new restaurants of the year.

The restaurant, called Diane’s Place, is set to open Saturday, April 6.

It’ll be located in Northeast Minneapolis at the Food Building, a production space that houses several other food businesses including Baker’s Field Flour and Bread and Alemar Cheese Company. Diane’s Place is Moua’s first independent project.

We’ll have to wait a bit longer to see the full menu, but Moua has said in the past that she intends to highlight ingredients grown by Hmong farmers including her own parents. Moua made her name in the Twin Cities dining scene as a pastry chef — previously, she ran the pastry programs at Bellecour Bakery, Spoon and Stable and other high-profile spots and earned several James Beard Award nominations — but at the new restaurant, she’s planning both sweet and savory dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner hours.

Diane’s Place: Opening April 6 at 117 14th Ave. N.E., Minneapolis; 612-489-8012; dianesplacemn.com
