Hillary Clinton Surprises Katy Perry with UNICEF Award

Hillary Clinton made a rare postelection appearance on Tuesday night when she presented the Audrey Hepburn Humanitarian Award to Katy Perry at the UNICEF Snowflake Ball in New York.

“She is serious about understanding the complex problems we face and pulling people together to solve them,” Clinton said as she introduced Perry.

Perry has been a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF since 2013, raising over $1 million for the organization through her most recent world tour. Likewise, Clinton has championed women and children’s rights throughout her career.

Perry and Clinton share a mutual admiration. Throughout the presidential campaign, Perry was one of Clinton’s most staunch celebrity supporters, stumping for Clinton at fundraisers and rallies and delivering a rousing performance at the Democratic National Convention.

Likewise, Clinton said, “I’ve gotten to spend time with her, and I know how deeply she cares about making our world a better place. We need champions like Katy now more than ever — her passion, her energy and, yes, her voice, louder than a lion.”
