Hillary Clinton slams Bernie Sanders in new documentary: 'Nobody likes him'

Former Secretary of State and 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton unloaded on 2020 candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders in a new documentary.

"He was in Congress for years. He had one senator support him. Nobody likes him, nobody wants to work with him, he got nothing done," Clinton said in the film, according to The Hollywood Reporter. "He was a career politician. It's all just baloney, and I feel so bad that people got sucked into it."

In an interview published Tuesday about the documentary, Clinton was asked if that assessment of Sanders, I-Vt., still holds: "Yes, it does," she said.

Clinton would not say if she was prepared to endorse Sanders should he become the 2020 Democratic nominee, and she went on to criticize the "culture" around Sanders' supporters.

"It's his leadership team. It's his prominent supporters. It's his online Bernie Bros and their relentless attacks on lots of his competitors, particularly the women," she said. "And I really hope people are paying attention to that because it should be worrisome that he has permitted this culture – not only permitted, (he) seems to really be very much supporting it."

The four-hour documentary series, titled "Hillary," will premiere on Hulu this March and will be featured during the Sundance Film Festival starting this week, according to The Reporter.

Hillary Clinton: 'Lord knows what will happen if we don't retire' Trump

In a statement, Sanders did not respond to specific claims made by Clinton but rather redirected focus to the Senate impeachment trial of President Donald Trump that resumes Tuesday.

“My focus today is on a monumental moment in American history: the impeachment trial of Donald Trump. Together, we are going to go forward and defeat the most dangerous president in American history," Sanders said.

Sanders also addressed his followers after a recent feud over former Vice President Joe Biden's voting record.

"I appeal to my supporters: Please, engage in civil discourse," Sanders told CBS News.

Sanders lost to Clinton in the 2016 Democratic primary, but ultimately he endorsed and campaigned for her, though Clinton has accused Sanders of hurting her chances against Trump by delaying his endorsement.

“Honestly, Bernie just drove me crazy,” she said in the documentary, according to The Reporter.

Clinton also addressed controversy over Sen. Elizabeth Warren's claim that Sanders told her a woman couldn't win the presidency against Trump. Sanders denies he said that, but it caused tension between the two on the Democratic debate stage.

Candidates need to be held accountable for their statements, Clinton said.

"That's particularly true with what's going on right now with the Bernie campaign having gone after Elizabeth with a very personal attack on her," Clinton said. "Then this argument about whether or not or when he did or didn't say that a woman couldn't be elected. It's part of a pattern. If it were a one-off, you might say, 'OK, fine.' But he said I was unqualified."

Sanders has polled as a front-runner in the 2020 primary, standing behind only Biden in data compiled by RealClearPolitics.
