Higley Unified School District cuts ties with Superintendent Nate Carman

EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — The Higley Unified School District voted to cut ties with Superintendent Dr. Nate Carman on Wednesday, May 8, according to an NBC affiliate in Arizona.

According to the NBC affiliate, the Higley school board president said in a statement that applicants for the superintendent position were asked to disclose ongoing issues of possible misconduct and Carman allegedly failed to disclose things that would have affected the board’s hiring decision.

The Socorro Independent School District (SISD) announced in February that Carman was leaving at the end of the school year to become the superintendent of Higley Unified School District in Gilbert, Arizona.

SISD board president: Audit shows SISD superintendent has potential conflict of interest

As we have previously reported, Carman was placed on administrative leave in March during a SISD special board meeting following the release of an audit that showed he had an alleged conflict of interest.

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) appointed two conservators to oversee SISD’s operations in April.

The Higley school board selected Sherry Richards to serve as superintendent during the 2024-2025 school year, according to the NBC affiliate.
