UPDATE: Highway 99 south of Ada reopened

Apr. 28—UPDATE: The road has been reopened.

State Highway 99/U.S. 377 south of Ada is closed due to area flooding and a washed out roadway after heavy rain pummeled Pontotoc County Saturday night and Sunday morning.

According to the Pontotoc County Sheriff's Office, the Oklahoma Department of Transportation barricaded and closed the road in the construction zone between Ada and Fitztown due to the flooding and possible loss of a temporary bridge.

Motorists will need to find an alternate route when traveling between Fittstown and Ada until repairs are made.

"Use caution on all roadways throughout Pontotoc County," Sheriff John Christian said "Some areas received over 6 inches of rain and many county roads are washed out or flooded. Turn around, don't drown."
