HIGHLIGHTS: Steers and Hornets season comes to an end in the Region 2-1A Boy’s Regional Semifinals

SAN ANGELO, Texas — This past week, the Irion County Hornets and Robert Lee Steers punched their tickets into the Region 2-1A Boy’s Regional Semifinals, up in Snyder, Texas, which tipped off this Friday.

Irion County started things off against #3 ranked Benjamin and led by one heading into halftime, and it would be a close third quarter. Beginning the fourth quarter, Benjamin ate up a lot of the clock and capitalized off made shots to take the lead.

The Hornets season would come to an end Friday night, falling to #3 Benjamin, 41-35 in the Region 2-1A Boy’s Regional Semifinals.


Heading into the evening game, the Robert Lee Steers took center stage at the WTC Coliseum in Snyder, taking on the Eula Pirates in the Region 2-1A Boy’s Regional Semifinals. The winner of this one advances to the Region 2-1A Finals against #3 Benjamin.

The Steers would open the first quarter strong, holding the Pirates to only two points compared to their nine. But, in the second quarter, Eula would jump back into the mix, taking the lead heading into halftime.

Robert Lee’s season would end Friday night, falling to Eula 51-40 in the Region 2-1A Boy’s Regional Semifinals, but not after a historic season, 28 years in the making to send this program back up to the Region 2-1A Boy’s Regional Tournament.
