HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL | KHS slips to Van; district next; state-ranked Overton wins again; Sabine slips to PT

Sep. 8—Kilgore High School volleyball dropped its final non-district contest of the season on Tuesday night at home, a 23-25, 22-25, 24-26 night to Van.

Coach Madeline Harris's Lady Bulldogs are going to need to buck the trend to get off to a winning start in their District 16-4A schedule. The district again includes Bullard, as well as Spring Hill, Cumberland Academy, Henderson, Lindale and Chapel Hill.

Harris is in her third season and has made the playoffs in both of the previous two, getting Kilgore out of the first round in 2019, with a win over North Lamar.

The Lady Bulldogs open the 2021 district schedule at Spring Hill this Friday, with varsity playing first at 4:30. Junior Varsity and freshmen will follow.

Next week, Kilgore hosts Cumberland Academy on Tuesday (with freshmen starting at 4:30, like normal on Tuesdays), and Bullard will come here on Friday.

Overton: The No. 23 ranked Overton Lady Mustangs, led by Kaley McMillian's 17 assists, nine aces, six digs and two kills, swept past T.K. Gorman on Tuesday, 25-10, 25-12, 25-14.

Mary Fenter added seven kills, 13 digs and five aces for Overton (16-9). Kayla Nobles had six kills and two blocks, Chloe Laws four kills, 14 digs and four aces and Avery Smith 19 digs.

Overton will open district play on Friday at Hawkins.

Sabine: Gianna Spearman came up with 22 digs, Carmen Chatman added 28 assists, four kills and 20 digs and the Pine Tree Lady Pirates rallied for a 19-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-16 win over the Sabine Lady Cardinals at the Pirate Center.

Sabine visits Ore City on Friday, a 4:30 p.m. subvarsity start in district play. The Lady Cardinals will host Gladewater on Tuesday.
