High School Senior Accepted into 231 Schools and Awarded More Than $14 Million in Scholarships: It's 'Heartwarming'

Madison Crowell will attend High Point University in North Carolina later this year

The sky's the limit for one high school senior!

Madison Crowell was accepted into 231 colleges and awarded $14.7 million in scholarships to help fund her college education, according to High Point University (HPU).

Crowell, 18, who hails from Hinesville, Georgia, will attend HPU in High Point, North Carolina, later this year under a full-tuition scholarship.

“Getting all of this recognition is very heartwarming. The immense amount of support is greatly appreciated," Crowell tells PEOPLE in a statement. "I’m excited to hear that my story is being shared not just here in the United States, but globally as well."

"I am elated for my next chapter at High Point University, while giving back to young people that are willing to receive such valuable information," she adds. "Thank you to everyone that has been sharing my story."

In the fall, Crowell plans to major in exercise sciences at HPU, and she hopes to eventually earn a doctorate in physical therapy, according to the school.

She will also join HPU’s Bonner Leaders program, which, according to the institution, "connects students with local nonprofit organizations and social innovation projects around the city of High Point."

"Bonner Leaders serve the community and gain mentorship, a network of community support and real-world job experience," the school adds.

Currently, Crowell is highly active in extracurricular activities at Liberty County High School, where she serves as vice president of the Class of 2024, is a varsity cheerleader and a student ambassador, as well as the school’s lead basketball manager, a member of the National Honor Society and managing editor of the school’s yearbook.

Crowell told Good Morning America that she and her parents began planning her college journey back when she was a young girl.

Those efforts, the outlet said, became more serious when Crowell was in middle school. At the time, they would take road trips and go on college tours.

In a statement to PEOPLE, High Point University President Dr. Nido Qubein says, “We are excited to welcome Madison to our HPU family."

"She is going to do exceptional things right here at The Premier Life Skills University, where we call everybody to be extraordinary," he continues. "The sky is not the limit for her, and when she comes to High Point University, we know she’ll be a leader."

Qubein adds, "We know she’ll make amazing things happen. We’re here to resource her, cheer her on and celebrate her victory.”
