High Desert faithful gather on National Day of Prayer

Colorful balloons released skyward represented the prayers that were lifted up during a National Day of Prayer service at Adelanto City Hall.

Pastor Dane Davis of Impact Church led the midday prayer event on Thursday in Adelanto, which included a proclamation by Councilwoman Amanda Uptergrove.

The 73rd National Day of Prayer included several public gatherings across the High Desert, including early morning events at Granite Hills High School and Sitting Bull Academy, both in Apple Valley.

Granite Hills teacher Angelica Rodriguez told the Daily Press it was a blessing to be able to gather together on campus to pray for “courage and hope for the future of this generation.”

Adelanto City Hall

In Adelanto, over a dozen pastors and community leaders led the audience in worship, the reading of scripture and prayer.

Sam Garcia from Calvary Chapel Adelanto prayed for state and local leaders before singing the song “Heal Our Land.”

Cesar Arango from Angel Tree Ministries prayed for revival in America, while Renee Sylvester from Impact Church prayed for America’s schools.

Danielle Nowicki from GEO Secure Services prayed for police and fire personnel, while Deborah Lemons with Rose of Sharon Pregnancy Resource Center prayed for babies and families.

Pastor Charlie Speelman with the High Desert Baptist Association prayed for national leaders, and Pastor C.J. Page prayed for those in the U.S. military.

Also praying, prison official Firas Aldaoud, Victor Valley Rescue Mission Community Relations Representative Dawn Quigg, Gideons International representative Truman Harrington, and ministry leaders Aaron Culpepper and Juan Higuera.

Other prayer gatherings on Thursday were held at Apple Valley Town Hall, New Life Fellowship in Barstow, Hesperia City Hall, and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Ridgecrest Road in Victorville.
