High bacteria levels found at some Hillsborough County beaches; water quality advisory issued

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Water at some Hillsborough County beaches may cause an increased risk of illness due to increased bacteria levels, according to the Florida Department of Health.

Tests conducted on Wednesday found a level of bacteria that exceeded state guidelines at the following beaches: Bahia, Cypress Point, Davis Island Beach, Simmons Park Beach.

The Department of Health said any water-related activities in those areas should be reconsidered due to not meeting the criteria for Enterococcus bacteria.

The water quality advisory will remain in effect until testing shows the bacterial levels have returned to acceptable levels.
