Hickory repeat child sex offender sentenced to 40 years: DOJ

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — A repeat child sex offender from Hickory was sentenced to 40 years on Thursday, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of North Carolina announced.

Roland Watson, 55, of Hickory, will serve 40 years in prison after being prosecuted by the DOJ’s Charlotte Office and U.S. Assistant Attorney Daniel Cervantes.

Court records stated that from 2021 through 2023 Watson sexually assaulted three female juveniles. Phone records obtained by law enforcement also revealed explicit messages and images that were received in exchange for gifts that included candy, documents showed.

Watson was previously sentenced in New Jersey on similar charges and also failed to register as a sex offender when he moved to North Carolina, the DOJ said.
