This Hexacopter With Tiltable Blades Can Fly in Any Direction

From Popular Mechanics

We are living in the golden age of unmanned aerial vehicles. The newest addition to the constantly expanding droneosphere is Voliro, an hexacopter with individually tiltable axes that allow it to fly in any direction. It's pretty stunning to watch it spin up and down while remaining perfectly controlled.

A team of 11 students from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology and Zurich University of the Arts created Voliro. They've spent nine months working on the project so far, and have documented the whole journey. They plan to add an omnidirectional sphere to the drone in the future, so it can roll around on the ground.

Judging by how hard it can be to competently pilot a normal drone, we can only imagine that flying the Voliro would take a lot of practice. It's unclear if this prototype will ever make it to market, but for now, it's a hell of a lot of fun to watch.
