BROOKSVILLE, Fla. (WFLA) — Hernando County detectives asked for the community’s help in solving a 1972 cold case murder.

In a Monday release, the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office said they were looking for answers in the deaths of Peggy Joyce Shelton of Kentucky.

Shelton’s body was found in the area of High Corner Road and Cortez Boulevard in Brooksville on July 19, 1972.

Deputies said the woman’s body was found wrapped in a “Pineapple Damask” bedspread.

Shelton’s identity or origins were unknown for decades until Detective George Loydgren learned of a possible name after getting a tip from Othram Labs on Aug. 11, 2022.

A month later, Othram Labs sent a kinship report that positively identified Shelton as the victim.

The case is still unsolved, so detectives asked that anyone with information call Detective George
Loydgren at 352-754-6830 or Hernando County Crime Stoppers at 1-866-990-TIPS
