Here's where to find Canada's happiest singles

March 20 marked the United Nation’s International Day of Happiness. As part of the occasion, the UN released it’s annual happiness report — listing Canada in 7th place!

The study has led to dating site, EliteSingles, churning out their own happiness report, based off data collected from Canadian singles.

The anonymous survey collated information from 45,000 Canadian men and women registered with the dating site. Participants were examined on how highly they ranked themselves when asked how happy they felt.

The results were averaged to develop geographical pinpoints to where Canada’s happiest singles reside. Find out if your city made the cut:

While cheerful Canadians can be found nationwide, many of the happiness hot spots are in Ontario — 8 out of the top 10 in fact. Orangeville, Ont. topped the smile charts for singles in Canada, beating out strong competition from two other Ontario cities, St. Thomas and Collingwood, to claim the crown.

The other Ontario cities in the top 10 include Aurora (5), Barrie (6), Oakville (7), Welland (9), and Burlington (10). Meanwhile there are just two non-Ontarian cities ranked, with Leduc, Alta. coming in 4th place and White Rock, B.C. claiming 8th position.

One interesting result was that no major Canadian city finished in the top 10. When it comes to sheer well-being, smaller does seem better.

When the scores were averaged by province, rather than city, it was Nova Scotia that took top honours:
