Former President Donald Trump has attempted to ratchet up his public appeal to Black voters in recent months as Black support for President Joe Biden continues to soften. In his most recent attempt to bond with Black voters, Trump visited an Atlanta Chick-fil-A on his way to a fundraiser event on April 10.

And it turns out a Black woman orchestrated the whole thing.

Michaelah Montgomery, a Black conservative activist, told the Associated Press that she coordinated a group of Black students to meet Trump at the Chik-fil-A for the photo opp.

“Everybody got together at around 9:30 in the morning and walked on over to the Chick-fil-A and then we sat there and waited until the president showed up,” Montgomery told the AP. “It’s really disheartening to see that the media makes it seem like we just stumbled into a Chick-fil-A and he bought us milkshakes.”

Montgomery is the one hugging Trump in the viral social media videos, in which she gushes over the “accomplishment” of meeting the former president in person.

“People find it so hard to believe that there are young Black people who would have loved the opportunity to meet Trump,” Montgomery told the AP.

While Black support for Biden has softened, calling Trump popular among Black Americans would be a major leap. Only 25 percent of Black voters had a favorable opinion of Trump in the March Economist/ YouGov poll. And only 12 percent said they would vote for him if the election were held today.

The Republican Presidential nominee claimed that Black Americans like him because he has criminal charges. He even released a gold sneaker line that conservative pundits argued connected him with “Black America.”

“As you see Black support eroding from Joe Biden,” said Fox News contributor Raymond Arroyo about the shoes. “This is connecting with Black America. Because they’re into sneakers, they love sneakers. This is a big deal. Certainly, in the inner city.”
