Herding home: Wildebeest photographed in mass migration

These wildebeest are on the march. Photographs taken near the Serena Crossing Point in the Masai Mara, in Kenya, show the ground thick with thousands of the beasts.

As they make a dangerous trek across Africa during their winter, they kick up huge amounts of dust. The animals are also forced to make dangerous river crossings and fight off predators.

Their vast migration was captured by German wildlife photographer Ingo Gerlach. (Caters News)
