How you can help renovate a piece of southwest Missouri history

NEOSHO, Mo. — An area organization needs your help to preserve a historic school house.

The Carver Birthplace Association still needs to raise about $31,000 to renovate the inside of the Neosho Colored School building.

It was the first school attended by George Washington Carver.

Lana Henry is the chair of the nonprofit and says the group hopes to start on that renovation project soon.

“We are feeling very confident we are going to move forward with uh getting an architectural historian on board, get the construction documents done and get this thing out for competitive bids and yes, it’s going to happen in probably the next year,” said Henry.
