How you can help Investigator Theetge and his family

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) — People who want to help Chemung County Sheriff’s Investigator Mike Theetge, who was critically injured in the line of duty on Friday night, and his family can make donations through businesses around Chemung County.

Theetge suffered a serious head injury when he was pursuing a shoplifting suspect in Big Flats on March 29. After he was injured, Theetge was taken to Guthrie Corning Hospital before being airlifted to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre. According to Chemung County Sheriff Bill Schrom, Theetge remains in critical condition at Robert Packer.

Local businesses have offered their support to Theetge and his family by making monetary donations, starting fundraisers, and collecting donations. Community members who would like to support the Theetge family financially can do the following:

TV Raffle at Mimi’s Lounge

Mimi’s Lounge in Elmira will have a TV raffle to raise money for Investigator Theetge and his family. Anyone wishing to help can go to Mimi’s Lounge at 924 Sullivan St. in Elmira and pay $20 for one of 100 squares on a board. The raffle will be held once the board is full.

Eat at the Diner on April 6

Twenty percent of all sales made at the Diner on Saturday, April 6, will go to the Theetge family. The Diner, which is located at 59 Old Ithaca Road in Horseheads, is open from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. every day.

Purchase a shirt from Finger Lakes Sign and Design

Finger Lakes Sign and Design is selling a collection of shirts with messages of support for Theetge, and $10 from each purchase will go to the Theetges. Five dollars will be donated for each car decal purchase as well. The collection will be available at this link until the end of the day on April 14.

Purchase a dozen macarons from P’s Macarons

P’s Macarons is donating $15 from each sale of a dozen of macarons. P’s will be taking orders until April 10 for an April 19 pick-up date. Purchases can be made through this link.
