Helicopter with crew working on Hurricane Ian recovery crashes

A private helicopter carrying a crew working to set up communications systems in the wake of Hurricane Ian crashed Saturday night, the Iona McGregor Fire Distric reported.

Four people were aboard the helicopter and were sent to the hospital, the fire department reported.

The helicopter crashed behind the Iona McGregor fire station on Pine Ridge Road in South Fort Myers, and fire crews were able to respond immediately, the department reported on Facebook. A small fire also was put out.
