Heavy snowfall, regional storm affect at least 189 flights at Detroit Metro; 15 cancelled

ROMULUS, Mich. - A heavy snowfall and winter storm conditions around the region have affected at least 189 flights at Detroit Metropolitan Airport and forcing the cancellation of at least 15.

The fringe of a winter storm centred farther south in Ohio is expected to dump four to seven inches of snow on the region by Thursday morning, and the National Weather Service reports 3.8 inches was already on the ground at the airport in Romulus on Wednesday afternoon.

Detroit Metro says typical flights were facing delays of 16 to 30 minutes by early evening.
