Heavy Snowfall Grounds Flights at Amsterdam Airport

A snowstorm disrupted flights into and out of Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport on Monday, December 11 as authorities issued a code red alarm, the highest of four warning levels, for most of the country.

The airport tweeted a third of all flights had been canceled due to limited runway capacity. Around 1,300 camp beds were set up for stranded passengers.

430 flights were canceled, local news source Telegraaf reported. Dutch airline KLM alone canceled 300 flights, with travelers in Eindhoven Aiport also affected.

Heavy snow blanketed many parts of Europe late last week and early this week, with transport chaos also reported in Germany, Belgium, Italy and France.
