A heavy law enforcement presence was reported near the Dayton VA Medical Center Wednesday afternoon.

Upon arrival, deputies found a wheelchair-bound woman outside who said her estranged son who had just been released from prison had forced entry into her home and locked himself inside.

The sheriff’s office said the son is known to deputies and the Adult Parole Authority to suffer from mental health issues and to be “very combative.”

A perimeter was set up and deputies tried to establish communication with the suspect but were unsuccessful.

A K-9 was requested and mutual aid from Dayton police and SWAT units were called to the scene because of the suspect’s “lengthy history of violent felonies and assaults on both law enforcement and corrections officers.”

When crews entered the home, they discovered that the suspect likely fled out of a window before deputies arrived on the scene.

The suspect has not been located.

A spokesperson for the Dayton VA confirmed two gates were closed on Liscum Drive due to the investigation.

The incident remains under investigation at this time.
