Heat warnings and advisories issued through Monday in Central Texas
With temperatures set to reach into the low 100s, and heat indexes skyrocketing to 113 on Monday, the National Weather Service issued an excessive heat warning for Travis, Hays and Bastrop counties, and a heat advisory in Williamson County. After Monday, daytime temperatures will drop into the 90s, with overnight temperatures in the 70s and 80s.
Rain chances will increase mid to late week, with some afternoon and evening showers possible from Tuesday onwards, Orlando Bermudez, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service in New Braunfels said. Storm activity in the Austin-area will be contingent on storms north of the city, he said. While rain chances vary from 15% to 30%, he said if any storms develop, they could be strong, and even severe. He said the combination of excessive aerial water vapor and storm instability could see some storms producing heavy rain.
