Hearings for Beckley Water rate increase set by the Public Service Commission of West Virginia

BECKLEY, WV (WVNS) — Public comment and evidentiary hearings were scheduled by the Public Service Commission of West Virginia regarding a potential rate increase for Beckley Water Company.

The evidentiary hearing will be held first followed by the public comment hearing, and will start at 10:00 a.m. on March 15, 2024 in Beckley at the Tamarack Conference Center, Ballroom C.

Those who wish to make in person comments on the case will need to be ready to speak before the start of the evidentiary hearing. Written comments can also be filed online by clicking on Submit a Comment, then following the prompts for Formal Case. The increased charges and rates requested by Beckley water would bring in around $4,702,291 annually, which is a 30.91 percent increase. The proposal is expected to cause customers to see a first rate step increase of around $9.25 monthly in most service areas for average residential customers, and $4.61 after pending construction projects are finished. Other customers and resale customers will see a similar increase in percentages.

Unless the rate and charge increases are approved and authorized by the Public Service Commission, they will not go into effect. The final order deadline for the case is June 24, 2024.
