Health warning for consuming QCA-caught fish

Illinois health officials are sending a warning about fish consumed that were caught locally.

The Illinois Department of Public Health released its latest consumption advisory, and testing resulted in advisories for nine bodies of water statewide. Officials advise to avoid predatory and bottom-feeding fish because of increased likelihood for containing perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances, or PFAS. Bodies of water to be aware of in the QCA are the Mississippi River and Rock River. The fish there are also being recognized for contain polychlorinated biphenyl and methylmercury.

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources says to limit consumption of carp to one per week.
