Destination weddings are a crowd favourite and for good reason. If a wedding has you packing your bags for a sunnier, warmer climate in the remaining months of winter, what’s better than that? You have an excuse to escape the cold with some of your closest family and friends, and enjoy frozen cocktails on a beach where there isn’t a centimetre of snow in sight.

Whether you prefer to spend your days laying on the beach with a good book or opting to sleep in for later nights of dancing at the disco, destination weddings offer the opportunity to get some vitamin D and quality time with loved ones. Are you heading out of the country for a wedding in the next few months? Here are a few things you should pack that could make you a wedding guest MVP. Sunblock

While number one may seem obvious, you’d be surprised how many people forget to pack sunblock. Often when heading somewhere exotic for a wedding, the couple getting married are so focused on other wedding-specific pieces to pack that they forget this obvious necessity. You can save the day (and any guests from sunburns) by packing some SPF to share with the rest of the wedding crew.

Oil-blotting papers

This is a must-have, especially for the bridal party on any wedding day, but it’s even more important for destination weddings. The hot sun beating down makes for shiny faces in wedding photos. The last thing you want is for the bride and groom to look back at their photos and only focus on how hot and sweaty the bridal party looked. Pack oil-blotting papers (and even a lightweight cloth) to dab away any sweaty spots for those perfect photo ops.

Antiperspirant

Whether you’re standing in the bridal party or sitting under the hot sun during the ceremony, you most likely want to stay fresh throughout the day. Purchase a travel-size antiperspirant spray and keep it close by. By using the spray, it’s easier to share hygienically and while most summer clothes are typically light and airy, this extra step toward smelling nice will be appreciated by everyone in your party.

Insect repellant

When travelling, we all want to believe we’re existing in a utopia where sun burns, snow and insects don’t exist – but this isn’t true. Be a party life saver and pack insect repellant. It’ll save your evenings allowing you to enjoy a sunset ceremony on the beach. Insect repellant will keep pesky sand fleas and mosquitos at bay while the couple exchange their “I dos.”

Spare pair of flip flops

While some people hoard flip flops like they’re going out of style, having a spare pair on a trip is always handy. Despite being loved for their lightweight and flimsy style, these sandals are easier to break and may result in a beach crisis if you don’t have anything else to change into. They’re also relatively cheap so you can give a pair to a friend who forgot to pack beach-friendly footwear.

Moisturizer with aloe vera

In humid temperatures, it can be easy to forget to moisturize but it’s just as important in warm climates as it is in cold climates. While you can often opt for a light-weight summer option, moisturizing is key in keeping your skin looking fresh and dewy. If you really want to up the ante, invest in a moisturizer that also has aloe vera, it will soothe your skin from the sunny days and provide a nice glow – getting the most out of the warmer days.

Bandaids

Going to warmer climates allows you to ditch your winter staples for a week or two, leaving your snow boots at home and swapping them for new, lighter footwear. However, with new footwear comes the opportunity for blisters. Pack bandaids and share them around – during your week of destination wedding fun someone is bound to get a blister or a cut from the sand on the beach.
