HBO Sets a New Bar for Teasing with Teasers

We realize there's only so much time one can spend in a day watching new trailers, viral video clips, and shaky cell phone footage of people arguing on live television. This is why every afternoon The Atlantic Wire highlights the day's video clips that truly warrant a few minutes of attention. Today:

Teaser trailers are meant to only give audiences a brief taste of the final product, but the blink and you missed them previews HBO rolled out for Luck and the second season of Game of Thrones before the season premiere of Boardwalk Empire last night may have set a new record for trailer obscurantism. The 47-second Luck spot at least featured shots of lead Dustin Hoffman and mentioned the involvement of Michael Mann and David Milch in the racetrack drama. At 12 seconds, the Game of Thrones promo didn't even include any footage from the new season, opting instead to unveil the new season's tagline, "The night is dark and full of terrors."  [HBO via The Hollywood Reporter and The Wall Street Journal]

When we first heard that Stephen King was considering writing a sequel to The Shining featuring Danny Torrance, the psychic little boy from the original, in his mid-40s and working as an orderly at a Hospice center, it seemed like one of those projects that directors and authors casually mention in interviews but never really follow through on. So it was a surprise to see King read a lengthy excerpt from the novel, titled Doctor Sleep, at George Mason University on Friday night.
