HBO Makes Plans For Potential Third Season Of ‘Girls’

HBO’s hot comedy Girls just wrapped production on its second season but the pay cable network is already looking ahead to a potential third season. I hear HBO is working on a deal to bring back executive producer Jenni Konner, who has been co-running the show with creator/star/executive producer Lena Dunham. Once Konner is locked in, the show is expected to move on to doing writer-staffing deals in anticipation of a pickup. Girls executive producer Judd Apatow hinted at the show’s pending renewal. “We’re about to shoot the third season of Girls,” he said in a video interview for The DP/30 Channel while promoting his new film, This Is 40.

Many networks and studios move in to make if-come deals with writer-producers of their hot shows before the official renewals in order to lock sought-after scribes and be able to hit the ground running when the pickup is made. “We’re looking forward to the launch of Season 2 and hope to have good news shortly thereafter,” HBO said in a statement. Season 2 of Girls premieres January 13.
