HBO Just Confirmed the Identity of Jon Snow's Father

From Esquire

In the Season Six finale of Game of Thrones, Bran watched as Lyanna Stark gave birth to Jon Snow. Throughout the series it was understood that Ned Stark had a bastard child with a mystery woman while off fighting Robert's Rebellion.

In this episode, we find out that this child was not his, but his sister's, who put Jon in Ned's custody to keep him safe. If anyone finds out who the father is, they'll kill him. But she leans over and whispers the name of the father to Ned, and we don't hear. The camera cuts away, so we can't even read her lips. That man's name is officially a mystery in the show, though, it's widely believed that the father is Rhaegar Targaryen, the brother of Daenerys.

The show left this detail as a mystery to be relieved next season. For all intents and purposes, Jon Snow is not yet a Targaryen.

But this graphic, which appeared on HBO's official Making of Game of Thrones blog, officially confirms who Jon Snow's father is.

That little parent line is connecting Rhaegar Targaryen to Jon Snow clear as day.

There you have it: Jon Snow is a Targaryen.
