Hazardous waste collection event taking place at Daniel Boone High School in April
JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. (WJHL) – The Washington County Department of Solid Waste will hold a free household hazardous waste collection event at Daniel Boone High School on April 20, the department said in a release on Wednesday.
The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the release said.

Hazardous waste is considered anything corrosive, flammable, toxic or reactive. A list of common hazardous waste provided by the city is as follows:

Toilet Bowl Cleaners
Disinfectants
Home Maintenance:
Chemicals
Paint Thinner
Wood Preservatives
Paint Strippers & Removers Adhesives
Miscellaneous:
Fingernail Polish Remover
Pool Chemicals
Photo Processing Chemicals
Medicines & Drugs
Reactive Materials
Aerosol Spray Cans
Compressed Gas
Mercury Thermostats
Mercury Thermometers
Fluorescent Light Bulbs
Needles/Sharps (in a puncture-proof container)

Lawn and Garden Chemicals:

No medical or infectious waste (besides needles and sharps), explosives, ammunition or radioactive waste will be accepted, the city said. Waste removal from businesses, schools, churches and farms will be available by appointment.
The event is sponsored and paid for by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation.
