Hazardous materials incident impacts traffic on Mass. Pike in Charlton
CHARLTON - A hazardous materials incident snarled traffic heading eastbound on the Massachusetts Turnpike Monday afternoon.
According to the Fire Department:
A crash involving a tractor-trailer resulted in the leaking of sulfuric acid. Based on information from the driver, officials determined the load to be 330 gallons.
The truck was in the breakdown lane. After determining it was safe for motorists to pass the scene in the left and middle lanes, officials implemented a hazarous materials response. A state response team was summoned. It was determined about 80 gallons of sulfuric acid had spilled from a container. The remaining cargo was moved to a different vehicle. The last of the crew was on scene until midnight.
