Hayward man stabs wife to death, turns self in, police say

(KRON) — A Hayward man allegedly stabbed his wife to death inside their Cypress Avenue apartment on Thursday afternoon, police said.

Around 5:45 p.m., 911 callers told dispatchers that a woman was yelling inside an apartment before a man walked out and drove away, the Hayward Police Department said. When officers responded to the apartment to investigate the domestic violence incident, they found the woman suffering from stab wounds.

She was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The killer fled from the area before police arrived, HPD said. Just three hours after the deadly stabbing, 66-year-old Gary Barroga Garcia contacted police “to report his involvement in this incident,” police wrote.

Garcia and the victim are married and they lived together in the Hayward apartment, police said.
