Hays County reports over $250K in damages from storm last week

HAYS COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) – Ringtones have soundtracked All Weather Restoration And Roofing’s office for the last several months.

“It’s been crazy. We’ve had, just storm after storm after storm,” said J. Tolbert, the owner of All Weather Restoration. “There’s not enough local contractors to get out there and take care of everybody.”

The company, which primarily deals with roofing issues, said business picked up even more after a severe storm blew through Hays County last Thursday. That storm brought strong, damaging winds and CD-sized hail.

“We’re seeing a lot of roofing damage, gutter damage, window damage, garage doors [and] fencing damage – things of that nature,” he said.

So far, Hays County has reported over $250,000 in damages from the storm. Though, they said groups continue to assess the damage and the total amount is likely much higher.

“It was a large system with a very narrow trough of intensity,” said Alex Villalobos, Hays County’s Chief of Staff. “If you were in that narrow trough, you really experienced some significant issues with high winds and hail.”

“Had that been a wider trough, we would have seen some pretty significant issues across the county,” he added.

Tolbert said the frequency of the storms this year has been abnormal.

“It seems like every week, we’re getting one or two storms coming through the area where,” he said.

If homeowners want to prepare, they can get their roofs and property inspected at least once a year. But somethings, Tolbert said, you cannot be prepared for.

“There’s really not a lot you can do when Mother Nature gets ready. She’s just gonna show up and do her job.”
