Hawks point guard Dennis Schröder arrested on misdemeanor battery charge

Atlanta Hawks point guard Dennis Schröder was arrested on battery charges in Brookhaven, Ga., according to police records. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski first reported news of Schröder’s arrest.

Four people in all were arrested on misdemeanor battery charges at a hookah bar northeast of Atlanta, according to Sports Radio 92.9 The Game host Mike Conti. Schröder has already posted bail.

Schröder actually owns a different hookah bar called the The DS17 Lounge in Atlanta.

The Hawks began their annual training camp on Tuesday at the University of Georgia in Athens — roughly an 80-minute drive from Brookhaven. Schröder, 24, was arrested early Friday morning.

“We are aware of an incident involving Dennis Schröder earlier this morning,” the Hawks said in a statement on Friday afternoon. “We are still gathering information as it pertains to the situation, and out of respect for the legal process, we will have no further comment at this time.”

According to a police report obtained by TMZ Sports, surveillance footage shows Schröder shoving a man following a “verbal, heated exchange,” at which point the alleged victim “was struck by hands and feet by the offenders” — reportedly three associates of the Hawks player. The victim was hospitalized.

NBA commissioner Adam Silver has wide-ranging authority to fine and/or suspend players following a conviction, guilty plea or no-contest plea. The league suspended Sacramento Kings point guard Darren Collison eight games last season after pleading guilty to misdemeanor domestic battery.
