Hastings: Highway 316 opens up with improvements

Nov. 24—All lanes along Highway 316 in Hastings are now open as work nears an end on a reconstruction project.

Work began in May 2021 on a $5.9 million project on the road as it passes through Hastings. The Minnesota Department of Transportation added three roundabouts, a center median to slow down traffic, dedicated pedestrian and bike areas, lined pedestrian crosswalks, and updated road signs and lighting to improve safety.

"To the residents of Hastings, the local businesses and all those who travel on Highway 316, we want to say thank you for patience," said MnDOT Deputy Commissioner Nancy Daubenberger.

The work included:

— Reconstructing Highway 316 from Highway 61 to Michael Avenue.

— Roundabouts at Spiral Boulevard, Tiffany Drive and Tuttle Drive.

— Repairing and updating drainage.

— Improving pedestrian and bicycle connections between Tuttle Drive and Highway 61.
