Hartselle business creates sports equipment program to support families in need

HARTSELLE, Ala. (WHNT) — The cost of putting your child in sports has only gone up in recent years.

It’s why a small business owner on Main Street in Hartselle needs your help to create opportunities for children and families facing financial barriers when it comes to getting sports equipment.

“It came out of nowhere,” BeFrizz Owner Brianna Frizzell said. “I think we’re only two weeks from a dinner conversation to this becoming a reality.”

Frizzell is the driving force behind the ‘Play It Forward’ program. It’s a program that’s geared toward helping those in need.

“We’re having dinner one night, talking about all the things that we have that still have lots of life left in them…and nowhere to really take it,” Frizzell said. “A great thing that could be done is to have a place for people to be able to go to look for new equipment if they can’t afford equipment, and for us who have it and nowhere to give…to have somewhere to take it to.”

The program is located inside BeFrizz and is now accepting new or gently used equipment.

“Soccer, baseball, football, archery, fishing…I mean no limits whatsoever,” Frizzell explained.

Frizzell says her two girls have been playing softball for about 7 years now.

“Almost every single season, there will be at least one child on a team that needs some help,” Frizzell said.

It’s why Frizzell hopes ‘Play It Forward’ will alleviate any financial burdens a family may have.

“I hope that we can get it off the ground well enough to truly become a household name so everybody knows every season…’Okay my kids have outgrown this, I know where I’m taking it’,” Frizzell said.

Children will get to keep the sports equipment provided through the ‘Play It Forward’ program.

If you’d like to donate new or gently used sports equipment, you can drop them off at BeFrizz which is located at 101 Main Street East in Hartselle.
