Harry Potter's childhood home on sale for $620,000
Harry Potter fans may have found the ultimate piece of movie memorabilia, with the wizard's childhood home now up for sale at the Half-Blood Prince-ly sum of £475,000 ($620,000).
The fictional 4 Privet Drive is actually a three-bed house in Martins Heron, Bracknell - around 40 miles west of London. It was used as the Dursleys' home in the first Harry Potter movie "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone".
Situated in a quiet cul-de-sac location, the detached property "has recently undergone complete renovation to an extremely high standard," according to the advertisement placed online.
The house is famous for being the place where Harry Potter was forced to live in the cupboard under the stairs by his cruel aunt and uncle. A BBC report from 2003 said that the real owner at the time, Sandra Smith, was approached by Warner Brothers in 2000 to use the building in the famous movie.
The house changed hands in 2004 for just under £240,000 and was again sold in 2010 for £290,000. But the price surge in the last six years is indicative of the wider market in the U.K. which has been buoyed by government stimulus and lack of supply.
Despite the house having a famous past, it is not being priced at a premium. Property websites show that the estimate is average for the street it belongs to.
