Harrowing images show firefighters struggling with California wildfires

Wildfires in northern California have left at least 29 dead and hundreds missing this week, and on-the-ground responders are still struggling to battle the disastrous conditions which reportedly remain completely uncontained.

"This is a serious, critical, catastrophic event," Cal Fire Chief Ken Pimlott said of the situation.

Pimlott expects the current number of destroyed homes and businesses of 3,500 to significantly rise as fires die down allowing crews to effectively enter the areas.
