Harrison Ford: I Want Nothing To Do With Young Han Solo Movie

There’s a young Han Solo ‘Star Wars’ spin-off coming in 2018 but the old Han Solo says he wants no involvement in it at all.

Harrison Ford was speaking at the UK press conference for ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ when a journalist from The Void magazine asked the 73-year-old if he’d like approval on who Disney casts as the younger version of his iconic smuggler.

“As far as the movie featuring a young Han Solo I… I… I don’t even know what to think about that,” Ford said.

“I’m glad that somebody else is going to have the burden of being young and take care of that part. It’s well beyond my understanding or control and I, of course, want nothing to do with it in the nicest possible way.

“But, I know that it’ll be well done and well guided, but it’s nothing to do with me.”

Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the masterminds behind the hugely successful ‘21 Jump Street’ and ‘The LEGO Movie’ franchises, are the filmmakers tasked with bringing the young Han Solo movie to cinemas, and they’ll be working on a script from Lawrence Kasdan.

Kasdan knows the character well having written ‘The Empire Strikes Back’, ‘Return of the Jedi’, and ‘The Force Awakens’, but this new spin-off will take us back to a time before the events of ‘A New Hope’ as the official press release for the film explains.

“The story focuses on how young Han Solo became the smuggler, thief, and scoundrel whom Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi first encountered in the cantina at Mos Eisley.”

Disney has reportedly cast its net far and wide in order to find the right actor, screen testing over 2,500 young stars to find the right man for the job. Amongst the names said to have been considered are Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ansel Elgort, and Dave Franco.

Aside from his disinterest in the ‘Star Wars’ spin-off, Ford seemed genuinely thrilled to be involved in ‘The Force Awakens’ that hits UK cinemas today.

“I have actually relished this entire experience in a way that I had not anticipated and I think a lot of the credit for that goes to JJ [Abrams] and Larry [Kasdan],” he said.

“This is a rare experience in my old life and I’m very grateful for it.”
