Harrington Park school superintendent resigns for college job

HARRINGTON PARK — About a month into the 2022-23 school year, school Superintendent Adam Fried has resigned effective Dec. 31.

Fried, who was in the job for 16 years, has accepted a position as assistant dean for undergraduate studies at Ramapo College, school board President Stephen Hahm announced Tuesday.

"Under Dr. Fried's visionary leadership, the district has continuously improved on all aspects of school operation, from academics and student care, to business administration," a letter from Hahm to the community read. "He has boldly implemented many innovative ideas and truly embodied the 'Leading the Way' motto, which has served our students well."

The Board of Education will begin its search for a new superintendent "immediately," Hahm wrote. In the meantime, the board will name an interim superintendent in November or December. The board's goal is to select a new superintendent for the start of the 2023-24 school year.

Fried was named Bergen County Superintendent of the Year in 2018 and Northern Regional Superintendent of the Year in 2017.

He grew up in Bogota and worked in Hawthorne and Dumont before becoming superintendent in Harrington Park in 2006.

Harrington Park has a K-8 district, with high school students attending Northern Valley Regional High School in Old Tappan.
