Harley rider dead after thrown off Merced River Bridge

MERCED, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A Turlock man riding his 2019 Harley Davidson motorcycle died after crashing into the back of a Chevrolet Suburban and was thrown off the Merced River Bridge on Sunday night, according to the California Highway Patrol.

CHP says around 9:30 p.m., they responded to a crash on Highway 165 north of River Road in Merced County. Investigators say a driving a 2011 Chevrolet Suburban was driving northbound on Highway 165, north of River Road, at approximately 40 mph directly in front of the Harley Davidson.

For unknown reasons, investigators say the rider allowed the motorcycle to crash into the rear of the Chevrolet Suburban. As a result of the impact, CHP says the rider was thrown off his motorcycle and the Merced River Bridge.

Emergency crews say they found the rider at the bottom of the bridge where he was found to have died.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
