Harford County Public Schools opens application period to Swan Creek School for 2023-2024 school year

Jan. 12—Harford County Public Schools opened its application to Swan Creek's blended virtual learning programs on Tuesday for the 2023-2024 school year.

Applications are due Feb. 15, and students will be informed of their enrollment status by March 31. If the number of eligible applicants exceeds the number of seats per classroom, a lottery system will be implemented.

Parents who are interested in applying for grades 2-12 e-learning or grades 6-12 for in-person, blended learning should visit the Swan Creek School website, ceo.ss18.sharpschool.com, for additional information about the school.

If after reviewing the program information on the website you have questions about the program or application process, contact Swan Creek School at 410-273-5594.

Swan Creek began before the onset of the pandemic, the school system said. Harford County Public Schools recognized a need to support students with varying learning styles and preferences, and had already begun the process of opening a virtual program through the Maryland State Department of Education application process, the school system said.

After the onset of COVID-19, when students and staff were beginning to return to school in-person, Swan Creek evolved into the hybrid model it is now; offering students both virtual and in-person options, should they wish to enroll.

The school launched during the 2021-2022 school year. The mission for Swan Creek's first year was to build an alternative learning environment for students and families in Harford County that was never seen, and it was a success in the eyes of parents, students and staff, the school system said.

During its first year, Swan Creek held in-person events that faculty primarily coordinated for students to meet their teachers and classmates. The school used its material collection days as events, and the school held a field day for students.

However, the school continues to improve its alternative learning environment with input from parents, students and staff. HCPS worked with the principals and staff at the Swan Creek School to create a report that documents what parents, students and staff hope to improve in the future.
