Happy Valley actor's spy show acquired by the BBC

The BBC has acquired espionage drama Spy/Master starring Happy Valley's Alec Secăreanu.
The six-part series, which made its debut on HBO's streaming service Max in the US last year, will come to BBC iPlayer in the UK. A release date is yet to be confirmed.
The Cold War era thriller follows one treacherous week in the life of protagonist Victor Godeanu (Secăreanu), who's described as "the right-hand man and most trusted advisor" to Romanian president Nicolae Ceaușescu (Claudiu Bleon).

The official synopsis continues: "With his government poised to uncover that he's a secret agent for the Soviets, Godeanu uses a diplomatic trip to Germany as a springboard to defect to the United States.
"Helped by undercover Stasi agent Ingrid Von Weizendorff (Svenja Jung) and up-and-coming CIA agent Frank Jackson (Parker Sawyers), Godeanu must elude the KGB and his own country’s spooks – all while his wife and daughter face the fallout back home".
Other cast members include Aidan McArdle (Ridley), Nico Mirallegro (My Mad Fat Diary), Laurențiu Bănescu (Boss), Ana Ularu, Andreea Vasile, lulian Postelnicu, and Elvira Deatcu.

Spy/Master was created and written by Adina Sădeanu and Kirsten Peters, while Christopher Smith directed all six episodes.
"A classic spy drama set at the height of the Cold War, Spy/Master is an atmospheric, complex thriller, dripping with style and suspense," said Sue Deeks, who's head of BBC Programme Acquisition.
Secăreanu is perhaps best known for his role as gangster Darius Knezevic in Happy Valley's third and final season, as well as Gheorghe in 2017's critically-acclaimed drama God's Own Country.
The actor also played Romanian gangster Constantin in The Missing spin-off series Baptiste.
