‘Happy!’ Premiere Scores Strong Ratings For Syfy
The Wednesday, December 7 premiere of Syfy’s Happy! set a new benchmark for the network in Live+3 ratings. The debut episode starring Christopher Meloni and featuring the voice of Patton Oswalt was Syfy’s best series premiere since The Magicians in January 2016 across all key demos, according to the network and Nielsen.
The premiere of the quirky series from Universal Cable Productions delivered 1.708 million viewers in total viewers and 779,000 adults 18-49. It also was basic cable’s No. 1 new original original scripted series in Q4 2017 in the key adults 18-34 demo with 271,000. In addition, the premiere opened strong on social, drawing more than 212 million impressions on Twitter.
On this week’s episode, Sax (Meloni) crashes a high-stakes poker game to win guns and cash for an escape from New York as Happy (Oswalt) tries to convince him he’s a father, and ex-wife Amanda (Medina Senghore) and ex-lover Merry (Lili Mirojnick) team up to rescue Hailey (Bryce Lorenzo).
Grant Morrison (Batman, The Invisibles) and Brian Taylor (Crank, Gamer) executive produce and co-wrote the pilot teleplay. Neal Moritz, Pavun Shetty and Toby Jaffe of Original Film (The Fast and the Furious franchise), Meloni and showrunner Patrick Macmanus also executive produce.
Happy! airs Wednesdays at 10/9 CT on Syfy.
