Albuquerque

  • March 15-16 The Show – Albuquerque’s longest-running comedy show. Every Friday and Saturday at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $12.

  • March 15-17 Tacos Ricos – The play about competing food trucks in the South Valley of Albuquerque will be performed at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 2:00 p.m. on Sunday at the National Hispanic Cultural Center.

  • March 15-24 The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee – The Albuquerque Little Theatre presents performances on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays throughout March.

  • March 16 Lucky Paws Van on the Move – Animal Humane will be holding an adoption event at Rich Ford at 8601 Lomas Blvd. NE from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Adoption fees will be waived during the event.

  • March 16 Juvenile Detention Center Rapid Hire Job Fair – It will take place on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the center on Second Street. Positions include youth program officers which involves supervision, care, and treatment of residents who are in custody.

  • March 16 Fill & Wes Improv – The “Dynamic Duo of Improv Comedy” takes the stage at 7:00 p.m. For ages 13 and up. Tickets are $10.

  • March 16 Einstein Gala at National Museum of Nuclear Science & History – The biggest science party of the year is happening at 5:00 p.m. Proceeds go towards the museum’s STEM educational programs for K-12 students as well as professional development workshops for science and math teachers.

  • March 16-17 Flea Market – Head to ExpoNM to check out trinkets, charms, and more. Admission is $10 per car or $2 for walk-ups.

  • March 17 Omnium Circus – The performance starts at 3:00 p.m. at Popejoy Hall. Tickets starts at $29.50.

  • March 20 Albuquerque Songwriters’ Cooperative Open Mic Night at Ancora – Every Wednesday night, Ancora Cafe and Bakery offers an open mic from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Albuquerque Notices

🔶 Pre-lease applications open for new affordable housing complex in Albuquerque – The city is in the process of converting the former SureStay Hotel off of Lomas and Eubank Boulevards into apartments. About 30 apartments are expected to be open in the spring. The city and property manager Monarch Properties Inc. are accepting applications for one-bedroom apartments.

🔶 ABQ BioPark asks for drivers to slow down to protect geese crossing the road on Tingley – With nearby construction on Bridge Blvd., more cars are taking Tingley these days to get to Central. There’s a 25-mile-per-hour speed limit on Tingley that the city said is appropriate for the road. The BioPark said if the public spots injured wildlife near Tingley, to call 311 to notify the city.

🔶 Adult STEM night at National Museum of Nuclear Science and History – ‘Discovery After Dark’ will take place on April 12 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

🔶 APD pilot program tracks gunshot data in neighborhoods – The Albuquerque Police Department launched a new program using data from their Shot Spotter program which is a real-time gunshot detection system. With the new program, anytime there’s a rise of gunshots in a neighborhood, police will gather the date, time, and place of where it happened and attempt to pinpoint the person who committed the crime.

🔶 Registration open for Albuquerque Little Theatre summer camps – Albuquerque Little Theatre Education and Youth Program offers classes, workshops, and summer camps that cater to students of all ages. Kids can register for Disney’s Descendants musical camp, the play actors mini camp, the Play Builders summer camp, and more.

🔶 City adds turf robots to help out at Los Altos Park – The robots are on lease to the city for at least the next year for a cost of $16,000, which covers maintenance and repairs. So far the robots are only painting softball fields, but the city says there’s a possibility of using them elsewhere.

🔶 Sandia Peak Tram, TEN 3 restaurant announce reopening date – Crews updated the 1960s-era controls that send the carts up and down the mountain and installed technology that will help maintenance teams better inspect and troubleshoot problems more easily. The TEN 3 restaurant reopened on March 14.

🔶 Explora Spring Break Camps – Explora is offering Spring Break camps on March 22, 25-29, and April 1-5. They will provide STEAM camps for Pre-K, K-2nd Grade, and 3-5th Grade groups.

🔶 New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science Spring Camps – Camps are happening March 25-29 and April 1-5 and are for children between the ages of 5 and 10.

🔶 Bernalillo County launches paid high school internship program – Students will receive employability training to prepare them for the internship. They will work up to 20 hours per week and be paid $14.31 per hour. Applications are open through April 30.

🔶 St. Patrick’s Day Uber code offered for Sandoval, Santa Fe, Bernalillo counties – The “Take a Ride on Us” program is firing back up, starting on Friday, March 15 at 10:00 a.m. and going until Monday, March, 18 at 2:00 a.m. Use Uber code ABQGREEN42 and receive a credit of up to $10 on two trips. The credit does not cover Uber Eats or a driver’s tip.

🔶 2 Rio Rancho City Council positions headed to runoff election – In District 6, Nicole Dahn leads the pack with more than 200 votes over her next competitor Edward Lynn Paulsgrove but she did not get the 50% vote needed. Paul M. Wymer is the new District 5 councilor with 54% of the votes. The runoff elections for city council will be on April 9.

🔶 New Mexico History Museum to host free community event at the Palace of the Governors – The event is to celebrate the completion of five years of rehabilitation work at the Palace. “History Homecoming: Past, Present, Palace” will take place on Sunday, April 21, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Palace of the Governors.

🔶 Jury finds Hannah Gutierrez guilty of involuntary manslaughter for ‘Rust’ movie set shooting – Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer ruled that Gutierrez be held in custody until sentencing in April. Gutierrez faces up to a year and a half in prison.

🔶 Delinquent property tax auctions scheduled in March – An auction in Colfax County is happening Wednesday, March 20, at 10:00 a.m. in Raton; Union County will hold one on Thursday, March 21, at 9:00 a.m. in Clayton.; Harding County will also hold an auction on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. in Mosquero.

🔶 Mayor of Hatch passes away – The mayor of the Village of Hatch passed away on Saturday. Mayor James Whitlock, known by many as “Slim,” was 65 years old, according to Mayor Pro-tem Dennis Torres. Mayor Pro-tem Torres, a lifelong resident and community member of Hatch, has assumed the role of interim mayor. Torres told KRQE News 13 that he will always remember Whitlock for his kindness.

🔶 Bosque School researches impact of 2022 Bosque fire on local porcupine population – A fire that ripped through nearly 30 acres of the Bosque right in the middle of the city also torched a lot of habitats of Albuquerque’s mostly hidden porcupine population. The school plans on continuing the research with future students for years to come.

🔶 New Mexico History Museum collecting community objects for Zozobra exhibition – The museum and the Kiwanis Club of Santa Fe want to see the community’s favorite memories of Zozobra, also known as “Old Man Gloom.” Community members can bring materials like vintage merch, family movies, or other memorabilia directly to NMHM on Lincoln Street to have them examined and photographed on-site.

🔶 New Mexico Military Institute students head to DC to compete in National Science Bowl finals – The team from the New Mexico Military Institute secured their spot and an all-expenses-paid trip to the finals after winning a qualifying regional competition this past weekend. The National Finals will take place from April 25- 29, in Washington, D.C., and will include science activities and sightseeing, along with the competitions.

🔶 Custom-built ‘Oppenheimer’ film set opens to visitors in New Mexico – The hour-and-a-half tour of the “Oppenheimer” set at Ghost Ranch is open to those ages 10 and up. The cost is $45. To book a tour, you are asked to contact Ghost Ranch’s tour department via email: tours@ghostranch.org.
