Albuquerque

  • March 1-2 The Show – Albuquerque’s longest-running comedy show. Every Friday and Saturday at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $12.

  • March 1 The TEN Tenors – This Australian group performs classic and contemporary favorites from “Bohemian Rhapsody” to “Nessun Dorma” at Popejoy. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets start at $32.50.

  • March 1-3 BreakingEven presents “Such Unknown Horrors” – The all-female retelling of Dracula through dance will be performed at Fusion 708. Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for ages 3-12.

  • March 1-24 The Odd Couple (Female Version) – Multiple performances will take place throughout March at the Adobe Theater.

  • March 2 KRST Country Music Showcase – The event starts at Revel at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $10.

  • March 2 All Things Analog at ListenUp – In-store demonstrations and hands-on turntable workshop to celebrate record sales beginning in the store. Event starts at 1:00 p.m.

  • March 2 Fill & Wes Improv – Fill Jeantete and Wesley Swedenburg perform a two-person long-form improv show based on a single audience suggestion. The show begins at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are $10.

  • March 2-3 Flea Market – Head to ExpoNM to check out trinkets, charms, and more. Admission is $10 per car or $2 for walk-ups.

  • March 3 The Pirates of Penzance – The performance from the New York Gilbert and Sullivan at Popejoy. It begins at 3:00 p.m.

  • March 3 The Historic Lobo Theater Presents: The Little Mermaid – Show starts at 11:30 a.m. General Admission tickets are $10, brunch and a movie ticket will be $25, and brunch only is $21.

New Mexico

  • March 1 People’s Performance Project – Sharpen your communication and conversation skills through theatre games, activities, and performance opportunities. Begins at 1:45 p.m.

  • March 1 First Friday Painting Party – Sign-up is $20 per person and the class runs from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

  • March 1-31 Read & Treat – To celebrate National Reading Month, kids from grades kindergarten to 8th are invited to keep a reading log of each book they read and receive prizes for their work.

  • March 1-2 Alice in Wonderland – Performances of the classic story will be at the Rio Grande Theatre in Las Cruces on Friday and Saturday.

  • March 2 Saturday Farmers Market – The Santa Fe Farmers’ Market is open year-round on Saturdays in the heart of the Santa Fe Railyard.

  • March 2 Four Leaf Clover Arts & Crafts Fair – The event is happening from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Fire Rock Casino in Gallup.

  • March 2 Cowboy Days – From 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum in Las Cruces, enjoy cowboy demonstrations, music, food trucks, as well as the Parade of Breeds cattle program.

  • March 2 Elemental Collage – Explore the power and significance of the four elemental forces through visualization and collage. This three-hour workshop begins at Meow Wolf in Santa Fe at 11:00 a.m.

  • March 3 Sunday Chess Club – Popolo’s Games in Taos will host this free chess club open to all ages beginning at 1:00 p.m.

  • March 6 New Mexico History Museum’s Friends of History – Friends of History presents the story of Willa Cather’s professional and personal life. The event is online only.

Albuquerque Notices

🔶 Isotopes mascot, Orbit, nominated for USA Today’s 10 Best – USA Today is running a poll to determine which Minor League Baseball mascots are the nation’s favorites. Albuquerque’s own Isotopes mascot, Orbit, is in the running. Voting for USA Today’s 10 Best MILB Mascots is open until Monday, March 11, at 10 a.m. M.T. and fans can vote once each day until then.

🔶 West Albuquerque park gets dedicated pickleball courts – Two tennis courts at Pat Hurley Park remain as resurfaced tennis courts. The city converted two other courts into four pickleball courts. The total cost to do the work was $84,000.

🔶 ECHO, Inc. supplying seniors with monthly food box – Seniors in the program can go and pick up their supplemental food box once a month, any time of the month, Monday – Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

🔶 Albuquerque Public Schools: Duranes Elementary School K-5 students to be relocated in the fall – The Albuquerque Public Schools Board of Education approved the plan Wednesday night. Students who live south of Duranes Road NW and Rice Avenue NW and west of Rio Grande Boulevard will be reassigned to Reginald Chavez Elementary School.

🔶 Blowing dust prompts health alert in Albuquerque – The alert is effective as of Tuesday, February 27, from 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. Anyone with respiratory conditions is encouraged to limit outdoor activity.

🔶 Several New Mexico lawmakers retiring after 2024 session – New Mexico has 112 lawmakers who represent various parts of the state. Now, several have announced their retirement. Sen. Steven Neville (R-Aztec) says he is not planning on running for reelection. Neville has been serving at the Roundhouse since 2004.

🔶 Albuquerque BioPark hosting special sensory-friendly night – The Albuquerque BioPark is hosting a sensory-friendly night on Friday, March 8 at the aquarium from 5:30 – 8 p.m. Tickets are limited and will be $5 per ticket. Guests can enjoy a night of sensory-friendly activities including, a map, special crafts a a quiet room, and a sensory-friendly kit that guests can check out.

🔶 Earth Day festival coming to Albuquerque on April 21 – The celebration will happen at the Balloon Fiesta Park’s Sid Cutter Pavilion from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Tickets are free if reserved during the month of March, but will raise to $5 in April.

🔶 Explora Spring Break Camps – Explora is offering Spring Break camps on March 22, 25-29, and April 1-5. They will provide STEAM camps for Pre-K, K-2nd Grade, and 3-5th Grade groups.

🔶 New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science Spring Camps – Camps are happening March 25-29 and April 1-5 and are for children between the ages of 5 and 10.

New Mexico Notices

🔶 New Mexico looking for contractors to help with tax prep – New Mexico’s Taxation and Revenue Department is looking for contractors to provide income tax help for New Mexicans in need. Contractors need to respond to the RFP by 3:00 p.m. on March 12. Finalists for the work will be selected by March 15.

🔶 Bernalillo County manager resigning – County Manager Julie Morgas Baca is handing in her resignation after more than five years working for Bernalillo County. Julie Morgas Baca was appointed in 2015.

🔶 New Mexico ranks high for pedestrian fatalities in 2023, preliminary data shows – The data comes from state highway safety offices around the U.S. and is compiled by the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA). The latest data counts fatalities between January and June of 2023 and adds an adjustment for undercounting.

🔶 Upcoming 4-H rodeos for 2024 – So far, San Juan County, Quay County, and Sierra County have submitted applications to host rodeos this year. There’s still time for more counties to join in (the deadline is March 15).

🔶 BernCo Treasurer’s Office warns against using digital wallets to pay property taxes – The Bernalillo County Treasurer’s Office is warning community members about using third-party online payment companies known as digital wallets, such as DOXO, to pay property taxes. When a third-party digital wallet is used, the Treasurer’s Office cannot control when or if a payment is received in a timely manner with correct and necessary information like an address or parcel number which can result in penalties and interest in addition to the property taxes owed.

🔶 More than 6,000 New Mexicans get federal student loans forgiven – A total of 6,270 New Mexico residents received forgiveness of their federal student loans via President Joe Biden’s SAVE loan forgiveness plan and fixes to the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Plan (PSLF), according to the New Mexico Higher Education Department.

🔶 New Mexico Veterans Affairs facilities getting upgrades and expansion – For fiscal year 2024, the VA plans on putting money towards the Raymond G. Murphy VA Medical Center in Albuquerque. Some of the buildings are getting new roofs, and the center is getting an upgraded pharmacy space, sewer line, and safety improvements.

🔶 Wildlife at Holloman AFB have high levels of chemical contamination, UNM study says – There are unexpectedly high levels of chemical contamination in wild birds and mammals at Holloman Air Force Base, near Alamogordo. PFAS contamination can come from fire-fighting foam that was widely used for training exercises at military installations in the 1970s.

🔶 New Mexico Department of Justice creates first-ever cold case unit – The unit has three, full-time, law enforcement agents who are currently reviewing and investigating six cases. The unit is working with local investigators and is using forensic genetic genealogy to try and generate new leads.

🔶 FEMA offering free flood insurance for those impacted by Hermits Peak-Calf Canyon fire – The FEMA claims office will pay up to five years of flood insurance via the National Flood Insurance Program. Alternatively, the office can reimburse some people for flood insurance purchased from private insurers after the fire.
